After opening the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, La Vénus électrique, the new romantic comedy by Pierre Salvadori, comes to the Bay Area this September as part of French Premiere’s programming.
Paris, 1928. Antoine Balestro (Pio Marmaï), a fashionable young painter, has been unable to work since the death of his wife. One evening, while attempting to contact her through a fortune teller, he unknowingly meets Suzanne (Anaïs Demoustier), a penniless fairground worker who has slipped into the caravan to steal food.
A gifted impostor, Suzanne soon gets caught up in the game and, with the help of Armand, Antoine’s art dealer played by Gilles Lellouche, stages a series of fake séances. Antoine gradually rediscovers his inspiration, while Suzanne begins to develop feelings for the man she is deceiving.
Also starring Vimala Pons, La Vénus électrique blends romantic comedy, fantasy and melancholy against the backdrop of Paris during the Roaring Twenties.
