Synopsis
- As the Ancien Régime collapses, Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, and their children are imprisoned in a dungeon in Paris, awaiting execution. Inspired by the diaries of Cléry, the king’s valet, the film portrays a time when royal grandeur is stripped away, revealing the humanity behind the masks. The Flood explores the metaphysical and personal upheavals of the protagonists as they face their own end.
A Radical Perspective on History
Gianluca Jodice, a philosophy graduate and director of the acclaimed Il cattivo poeta, delivers an apocalyptic film that transcends the conventions of historical dramas. Divided into three acts (The Gods, The Men, The Corpses), The Flood blends modern aesthetics with profound storytelling, questioning the symbols of power, human fragility, and shattered destinies.
Starring Guillaume Canet as Louis XVI and Mélanie Laurent as Marie-Antoinette.
Film in French with English subtitles. Presented by French Premiere.
