Smuin Contemporary Ballet
A true San Francisco story celebrating diversity and creativity. For more than thirty years, the Smuin Ballet has been blurring the line between classical ballet and contemporary dance, letting the unexpected slip in.
The Program
Stabat Mater, by the late Michael Smuin, a moving tribute piece marking twenty years since the company founder’s passing, returns to the stage for the first time since 2016.- World Premiere, by My’Kal Stromile. After commissions with the Paris Opera Ballet for Chanel and 8 years at the Boston Ballet, My’Kal Stromile makes his Bay Area debut.
- French Kiss, by Amy Seiwert, a returning favorite the San Francisco Chronicle called a “sweet, chic dessert.” For the ballet, the choreographer took inspiration from the time she spent in Paris as a young adult.
