Opus One and the Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts invite the public to a classical concert on Sunday, September 27, at the Erick Moreau Theatre at the Lycée Français de San Francisco, celebrating musical creation and Franco-American exchange.

Centered around the Opus One International Prize for Composition, the concert will showcase young composers and musicians from the Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts, a Franco-American institution based at the Château de Fontainebleau for more than a century.

Created in 2025, the prize is the result of a partnership between Opus One Winery, the renowned Napa Valley estate founded by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, and the Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts. Each year, five young composers receive scholarships to study composition in Fontainebleau, before one is selected as the prize winner and composer-in-residence at Opus One.

The San Francisco program will feature a work by Sofia Jen Ouyang, the inaugural winner of the prize in 2025; Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, K. 478; and Butterflies of Fontainebleau by Canadian composer Nora Popescu, winner of the 2026 Opus One International Prize for Composition.

Inspired by the butterflies found in the gardens and forest of Fontainebleau, Nora Popescu’s work perfectly reflects the spirit of the program: creating a dialogue between music, heritage, nature and contemporary composition across France and California.

The concert is free with registration. Donations collected during the event will benefit the Théâtre du Lycée Français de San Francisco and help support its artistic and educational programs.
