Mariam Doumbia, half of the legendary duo Amadou et Mariam, will perform at SFJAZZ on November 13, 2025, in a moving tribute to her late husband and musical partner Amadou Bagayoko.
Celebrating their joyful 45-year marriage and groundbreaking career, Mariam will revisit the timeless songs that made the couple global ambassadors of Malian music, while also introducing material from their final album together, L’Amour à la Folie (Mad Love). The concert is both a celebration and a farewell, marking Amadou’s memory after his untimely passing in April 2025.
Born in Bamako, the couple met as students at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind. From those early days, their unique mix of Malian pop, psychedelic blues, and West African traditions propelled them onto the world stage, where they shared spotlights with Coldplay, U2, Alicia Keys, Santigold, and even Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. Known around the world as “the blind couple from Mali,” their music has transcended borders and cultures.
Mariam will be accompanied by the same loyal musicians who supported the duo for years. In addition, this evening coincides with the recent release of filmmaker Ryan Marley’s Netflix documentary L’Amour à la Folie, which follows the couple as they prepared for a landmark concert in Mali. Together, the album and the film offer a deeply personal portrait of two artists whose music was inseparable from their love story.
