Ibrahim Maalouf is returning to San Francisco in May 2024 for a concert at August Hall. If you were at Bimbo’s in October 2022, you know how much his album “Capacity to Love” radiates an incredible energy that electrifies the venue!!

Since then, he has been nominated for the Grammys.

With this 16th album “Capacity to Love,” Ibrahim Maalouf aims to make a mark with unprecedented, surprising, and innovative popular music, once again where least expected!

With 16 albums to his credit, Ibrahim Maalouf has transitioned from winning major international classical trumpet competitions around the world to being the “most popular jazzman on the French music scene.” Playing to sold-out crowds in Istanbul, at Lincoln Jazz Center in New York, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., he became in 2016 the first jazz musician in history to perform in France’s largest concert hall, the Accor Arena in Paris.

Discovered by Quincy Jones and described by The New York Times as a “virtuoso”, Ibrahim has collaborated over the years with Wynton Marsalis, Angélique Kidjo, Melody Gardot, the Kronos Quartet, Trilok Gurtu, Josh Groban, Marcus Miller, Salif Keita, and many others.

In 2021, he made an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert alongside Jon Batiste, who introduced him as a “living legend of jazz.”

After being invited by Sting to perform with him at the reopening of the Bataclan in Paris, he then paid tribute to Tignous, one of the cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo, at his funeral. He also honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris in autumn 2015 with a national tribute, composing an anthem sung by the young French star Louane.

In a few years, the musician, film composer, and multi-award winner (Victoires de la Musique, Césars, Lumières…) has become an essential artist and a symbol of intercultural dialogue, to the point of being chosen to perform the national anthem in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on July 14, 2021; the show was broadcast on national television to 6 million viewers.

Date: May 3, 2024 – Doors open at 7 PM / Concert at 8:30 PM
