The American Chapter of the NGO called Pour un Sourire d’Enfant/For a Child’s Smile is looking for volunteers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The incredible story of the founders was told in a documentary released in 2016 called “Little Gems“. The film retraces the history of a French retired couple who volunteered to do humanitarian work in Cambodia in the 90s. When on-site, they discovered the misery of children living on open dumps to feed themselves and to eventually survive.
25 years later, Pour un Sourire d’Enfant has educated thousands of children, given them a job. Today, the NGO continues to feed and care for families in distress. Take a few minutes to watch this video which explains its mission, it does not need any extra comment.
PSE has a “chapter” in the United States which aims to support the action of PSE by funding projects and programs aimed at the education of the most disadvantaged children in Cambodia.
If you have some spare time, if you want to put your skills at the service of a broadly recognized NGO and to help develop its support in the US, American Friends of PSE needs you!
They just got non-profit status in the US (501 (c) 3)…. And everything needs to be done to develop the association, particularly within the French community and American philanthropy networks.
PSE has been represented in the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington DC since 2014 – Over the past two years, they have raised an average of $ 50,000/year.
The team is still under construction, but dynamic and with many projects insight. Whether you have one hour a month or three days a week, they seek to build teams and workgroups in the following areas:
- Marketing / communication (social media / graphic design…)
- Fundraising (grant writing / corporate programs / general public …)
- Event Planning (virtual event/sporting event/collaboration with schools, etc.)
No long-term commitment required as they quite simply need goodwill to ensure the sending of thank-you emails, help organize events, offer your contacts to present the association within Silicon Valley companies, liaise with French schools, etc …
It is not necessary to speak perfect English or speak French, training will be provided for all volunteers.
Please feel free to forward this post to anyone who may be interested.
If you want to know more, contact beatrice.carrot@americanfriendsofpse.org. This is volunteering … and not an offer of paid work ;-)!
