The second application period for French school scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year is now open. Eligible families have until Friday, October 2, 2026, to submit their application to the Consulate General of France in San Francisco.
The French school scholarship program helps French families living abroad cover all or part of their children’s tuition fees at French schools accredited by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE).
Scholarships are awarded each year based on a family’s income, expenses and assets, and within the limits of the budget allocated to the program. Funds are paid directly to the school, which then adjusts any remaining tuition balance owed by the family.
The first scholarship application period for the 2026-2027 academic year has now closed. A second application period is currently open for certain specific situations.
Second application period for 2026-2027: who can apply?
This second application period mainly applies to:
- first-time applications from families who moved into the consular district after March 1, 2026;
- requests for reconsideration from families wishing to challenge a decision made during the first scholarship review;
- certain late renewal applications, but only in cases of force majeure.
Application deadline: Friday, October 2, 2026.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify for the scholarship program:
- The child must be a French citizen.
- The child must be at least 3 years old by December 31, 2026.
- Both the child and the parent submitting the application must be registered with the Register of French Citizens Living Abroad.
- The child must live with at least one parent within the San Francisco consular district.
- The child must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in an AEFE-accredited school.
- The family must no longer receive family benefits from the French CAF. Families whose children previously lived in France may be required to provide proof that these benefits have been discontinued.
How to submit an application
Families have two options:
- submit their application online through the SCOLAIDE platform by creating a family account;
- or submit the application electronically via France Transfert, after downloading and completing the scholarship application form and the sworn declaration of income and assets.
In all cases, the application must be reviewed by the child’s school before it is submitted to the Consulate.
All families must also schedule an appointment with the Consulate’s Social Affairs Department. Families living outside the San Francisco Bay Area will be sent a Zoom link for their appointment.

Income and assets taken into consideration
For the 2026-2027 scholarship campaign, eligibility is calculated using the family’s 2025 income and financial resources.
Assets are also taken into account. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the exclusion thresholds established for the San Francisco consular district are:
- €100,000 in financial assets;
- €300,000 in acquired real estate equity.
Deferred-access retirement savings plans, such as 401(k) plans, are included when assessing financial assets.
Scholarships are calculated using capped tuition amounts rather than necessarily the full tuition charged by the school. As a result, families may still be responsible for part of the cost, even when awarded a 100% scholarship.
School admission and scholarship applications are separate processes
Applying to a school is separate from applying for financial assistance through the Consulate.
Receiving a French school scholarship does not guarantee admission to a school, and being admitted to a school does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded.
