This week-end, Nicolas Ellis will conduct a Shakespeare-inspired program featuring Mendelssohn’s magical music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Tchaikovsky’s impassioned Romeo and Juliet, Fantasy-Overture. In between, violinist Geneva Lewis will contrast Vaughan Williams’s tranquil The Lark Ascending with the fiery Carmen Fantasy  a perfect match for a summer night.

Nicolas Ellis is Music Director of the Orchestre National de Bretagne, Principal Guest Conductor of Les Violons du Roy, and Artistic Director of the Orchestre de l’Agora, which he founded in Montreal in 2013. Hailing from Chicoutimi, Quebec, and now based in Brittany, France, he makes his San Francisco Symphony debut with this program. When Nicolas isn’t conducting an orchestra somewhere around the world, he loves running and cheering on Stade Rennais, his Ligue 1 soccer team.

Two nights, two magical stages: Catch the program on Thursday, July 16 at Stanford’s beautiful Frost Amphitheater in Palo Alto, or on Friday, July 17 at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Both part of Summer With The Symphony.

Sweet tooth extra: we were told there are summer-perfect dessert specials at the lobby bar at Davies. Report back!
