French cinema returns to the Bay Area with Crescendo (L’Objet du délit), the new film directed by Agnès Jaoui, starring Daniel Auteuil, Eye Haïdara, Claire Chust and Jaoui herself.

The film takes us behind the scenes of an ambitious production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. When an allegation of sexual assault emerges during preparations for the performance, tensions rise and everyone is forced to take a position.

Generational differences, power dynamics, disagreements and convictions collide in this ensemble comedy where, as so often in Agnès Jaoui’s work, humor is never far from drama.

The choice of The Marriage of Figaro is no coincidence: Jaoui uses Mozart’s opera, which already explores relationships between men and women, male domination and class, as a mirror for very contemporary issues.

Directed by: Agnès Jaoui
Starring: Agnès Jaoui, Daniel Auteuil, Eye Haïdara, Claire Chust, Oussama Kheddam, Lucie Gallo and Tiphaine Daviot
