After discovering French bee and its commitment to more sustainable aviation, followed by our unforgettable day in Tetiaroa, we are taking you today to one of our favorite places in French Polynesia. A place we almost hesitate to share because we would love to keep it to ourselves: Hirifa, in Fakarava South in the Tuamotu Islands, where the Kitetuamotu team has created an experience that is at once sporty, authentic and deeply connected to nature. Here, you stay aboard a catamaran anchored in one of the most beautiful lagoons in Polynesia. On the program: kite surf or wing foil lessons, snorkeling, diving, boat excursions or simply contemplating this exceptional setting. Several packages allow everyone to create the stay that suits them best.
The adventure begins as soon as you arrive in Tahiti. After the direct French bee flight from San Francisco, it is possible to continue almost immediately to Fakarava with a domestic connection. After a one-hour flight, you land in Fakarava North, the gateway to one of the most beautiful atolls in French Polynesia.
But the journey is only just beginning.

The Kitetuamotu team organizes your transfer to Hirifa, at the southern end of the atoll. The approximately 90-minute boat ride gradually takes you away from the modern world and closer to a postcard-perfect landscape. The farther south you go, the more unreal the shades of blue become.
Then Hirifa appears.
Here, there are no large hotels or tourist complexes. No infinity pools or international buffets. Just an exceptional lagoon, a few family-run guesthouses, warm local residents and nature everywhere. That is precisely what makes this place so magical.
At the head of Kitetuamotu are the French-American couple Adrien and Aline and their daughter Anuanua.
Adrien is a certified sailing instructor, passionate about kite surf, wing foil and all the disciplines that allow you to explore the lagoon with the wind. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, he shares his expertise with patience and enthusiasm in one of the most beautiful playgrounds in the world. All information about lessons is available here.

By his side, Aline is simply impressive. Originally from the United States, she is a boat captain, accomplished freediver, outstanding organizer and true “warrior woman” who seems capable of doing just about anything. It is not unusual to see her go out to catch dinner before having to defend her catch from sharks trying to steal the freshly caught fish. A scene that might sound exaggerated if we had not seen it with our own eyes.
But reducing Kitetuamotu to a simple kite or wing foil school would be a mistake. The real luxury here lies in the immersion.
Over the years, Adrien and Aline have built precious relationships with the people of Fakarava South. Thanks to them, visitors discover an authentic Polynesia, far from standardized tourist circuits. Meals are shared, conversations flow with local families, and you discover places that guidebooks have not yet found.
Even though Fakarava South naturally welcomes travelers from around the world, the absence of large resorts has preserved a unique atmosphere. The experience remains deeply human, simple and sincere.
This philosophy is also reflected in their approach to tourism. Here, sustainability is not a marketing slogan—it is simply a way of life. Living aboard the catamaran, respecting the lagoon, intentionally keeping group sizes small, and maintaining strong ties with the local community all help preserve the delicate balance of this extraordinary ecosystem.
Days in Hirifa quickly settle into their own rhythm. A wing foil session at sunset. A snorkeling outing in crystal-clear waters. Lunch with your feet in the sand. An unexpected encounter with local residents. Sunset over the lagoon. Then dinner made with fish caught just a few hours earlier. The days go by, but you quickly lose track of time.
Just a few minutes from Hirifa lies one of the most spectacular natural treasures in French Polynesia: the famous South Pass of Fakarava, near Tetamanu. Accessible in about twenty minutes by dinghy from the anchorage, this legendary site located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve attracts divers and snorkeling lovers from around the world. The spectacle is particularly impressive during the incoming current, when the ocean feeds the lagoon and marine life seems to gather in this natural corridor. Grey reef sharks, schools of tropical fish, rays and coral create a fascinating ballet. Whether snorkeling or drift diving, the experience is simply unforgettable and one of the highlights of a stay in Fakarava South.
The days go by, but you quickly lose track of time.
What we particularly loved about Kitetuamotu is this rare combination of sporting adventure, cultural immersion and simplicity.

You come for kite surf or wing foil. You leave with much more: memories, encounters and the feeling of having experienced something truly authentic.
We almost hesitate to publish this article. Because some places deserve to remain secret. But the most beautiful discoveries are also meant to be shared.
The 2026 season is already almost fully booked. If this Polynesian experience makes you dream, we recommend starting now to prepare your trip for 2027.
As for us, one thing is certain: we will be back.
