On June 18, the call will not come from London but from the rooftop of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). For a special French Touch edition of Rooftop Radio, the museum will host a distinctly French-inspired evening blending San Francisco sunsets, contemporary art, and electro DJ sets.
Organized in partnership with Villa Albertine San Francisco and the Consulate General of France, with the support of MerciSF and French Talent USA, the evening will also celebrate the exhibition Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal in an atmosphere combining French culture, music, and California nightlife.
Three French and Franco-American DJs will perform throughout the evening. French DJ and artist Crystallmess, a former Villa Albertine resident, will open the night with her energetic and experimental electro universe. She will be followed by Greg Cerrone, the Franco-American DJ and producer who has collaborated with artists such as Avicii, Kungs, and Bob Sinclar. A familiar figure in the local electronic scene, Greg Cerrone previously collaborated with French Talent USA and Villa Albertine in 2019 as part of Make Music Day, the international celebration of music and French-American cultural exchange.
The evening will close with Joachim Garraud, a pioneer of the French Touch movement and longtime collaborator of David Guetta, Jean-Michel Jarre, and David Bowie. Now based in California, Joachim Garraud remains one of the major international figures of French electronic music.
Beyond the music, this collaboration between Villa Albertine and the SFMOMA highlights the increasingly strong cultural ties between French institutions and San Francisco’s artistic scene. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the museum galleries open late into the evening, along with special activations centered around French culture.
