The San Francisco Dance Film Festival is presenting an evening that should resonate with dance, cinema, and ballet lovers alike with The Prix, a documentary centered on the highly prestigious Prix de Lausanne. Presented by Dance Film SF in partnership with the Prix de Lausanne and the San Francisco Ballet School, the film offers rare behind-the-scenes access to a competition that has launched so many young talents onto the international stage.
Directed by Nuria Manzur and Alain Wirth, The Prix follows four teenagers — Romina, Julien, Abril, and Darrion — who have come from around the world to take part in this emblematic competition, widely considered one of the most important gateways to top dance schools. The documentary blends the tension of competition, years of discipline, and archival footage surrounding the Prix’s 50th anniversary in 2022–2023.
The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Olivier Glauser, President of the Prix de Lausanne Foundation, and followed by a conversation featuring Kathryn Bradney, Executive Director of the Prix de Lausanne, Milo Demeulenaere, 2026 Prix de Lausanne prize winner, Isabella Howard, recipient of the 2026 Young Creation Award, and Crystal Huang, 2024 Prize winner, moderated by San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer Frances Chung. One more reason to attend an evening that promises to go far beyond a simple film screening.
