From October 24 to November 9, 2025, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival (SFDFF) transforms movie theaters across the city into stages of movement and emotion. The program spans 18 curated screenings of documentaries, screendance pieces, and experimental works from around the world — followed by an online edition running November 10 to 30.
Since its creation, SFDFF has celebrated the dialogue between camera and choreography, giving visibility to artists who reinvent the way we see dance — not just as performance, but as cinematic art.
Spotlight on French / Francophone Works
Villa Albertine has partnered with SFDFF to present a French Selection, showcasing the diversity of francophone voices in dance cinema.
Among this year’s highlights:
- Farewell, Opéra – a moving portrait of Paris Opera Ballet dancers facing the end of their stage careers. Followed by a Q&A with director Yonathan Kellerman moderated by former Paris Opéra Ballet Sujet and former San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer Pierre Vilanoba, with a reception in the lobby. - Seasons of Dance – a poetic reinterpretation of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons through contemporary choreography and Max Richter’s music.
- Don’t Put Me in a Box – a feature documentary following Belgian-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, exploring identity and creation across three continents. (Screens November 7 at Brava Theater.) November 7, 2025 at 5:30pm at Brava Theater. Tickets here
