Mountains on Stage (Montagne en Scène in French), founded in 2012 by HEC graduates Cyril Salomon and Manon Grimwood, is much more than just a film festival. It’s an invitation to explore the wonders of the mountains through spectacular imagery and captivating stories. Born from their shared passion for the mountains, this traveling festival tours France and the world and will stop in San Francisco in December, bringing together lovers of nature, adventure, and self-discovery.
With two annual editions — Winter and Summer — Mountains on Stage curates an exceptional selection of the best mountain films in the world. Whether it’s skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, trail running, or climbing, each screening immerses viewers in extraordinary human adventures, showcased through breathtaking visuals. Additionally, iconic athletes and filmmakers like Kilian Jornet, Alex Honnold, and Julia Chanourdie share their experiences live on stage.
From its inception, the festival has captivated a wide audience, attracting over 15,000 spectators per edition in its first two years. It quickly established itself in France’s most prestigious venues, such as its launch at the Grand Rex in Paris. Cyril Salomon, an expert in logistics and organization, and Manon Grimwood, responsible for strategic directions, combined their talents to turn their dream into a major cultural event.
The co-founders have expressed their desire over the years to “become more involved in democratizing and protecting the mountains.” To that end, they established the Montagne en Scène Foundation, under the Fondation de France, to support projects that promote mountain access for diverse audiences, environmental preservation, and assistance for mountain accident victims and their families.
The Winter 2024 edition features 4 fascinating documentaries. Detailed program available here.
Montagne en Scène continues to inspire thousands of enthusiasts, proving that the mountains can be experienced remotely while providing a breath of fresh air and motivation to its viewers. What’s next? Dreaming even bigger and perhaps climbing even higher.
