The Lycée Français de San Francisco (LFSF), historically known for its French Baccalaureate program, expands its horizons with the introduction of the International Track (iTrack). The programwill be delivered through the renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) platform, and focuses on language acquisition with a unique emphasis on English proficiency and outstanding French language curriculum.

Championing an English-focused pathway from Elementary school through High School, the International Track stands out for its inclusivity, requiring no prerequisite for French language proficiency. This initiative provides students and families with a choice between two exceptional educational tracks.

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

Like LFSF, the IB is a not-for-profit organization, independent of political and commercial interests, and its programs are offered in a hugely diverse range of schools around the world, both state and private, national and international, large and small. One of the most special features of the IB is that it gathers together a worldwide community of educators who share a common belief that education can help to build a better world.

What are the synergies between LFSF & IB?

The iTrack brings together the IB experience with the 50+ years of LFSF demonstrated know-how in educating bilingual and global minded students.

The International Track is a seamless complement to LFSF’s educational offerings as both LFSF and the IB are organizations driven by a shared mission. Rather than reinventing the wheel, the International Track showcases the incredible work cultivated at LFSF for more than 50 years and enriches it through a new framework.

Universally acknowledged for its education, LFSF aligns with the IB’s track record of higher acceptance rates at the top 25 universities, emphasizing a joint commitment to propelling students toward their highest potential. 

Bilingualism, ingrained in LFSF’s DNA, defines the International Track. Instructing students in English while also imparting French (20%), this track offers the same high-quality education without mandating proficiency in the French language. Amina MAINE, Head of the English Department and IB Coordinator at the Primary level, explains, “LFSF’s teachers, with extensive experience in bilingual settings, are dedicated to bridging curricula and enhancing students’ language skills.”

Recognizing the cognitive benefits of bilingualism, Maine highlights its role as a window into diverse worldviews. “Through this program’s language acquisition track, students explore different cultures,” she adds, underscoring the immersive support from LFSF’s inclusive, international community, spanning 50 nationalities and 30+ spoken languages.

LFSF’s Global Learning program, featuring educational journeys from Grade 1 to Grade 12, enhances the international perspective. Students step beyond classroom confines to cultivate global outlooks, create lasting memories, and build connections.

The structure of the International Track at different educational levels

The international journey at LFSF commences early, with La Petite Ecole introducing very young children to school through play and dual-language development at the age of 2. In the upcoming Fall 2024, the International Track will be available at:

  • The Primary Year Program – starting Kindergarten/Grade 1 at the Sausalito campus: info here
