It’s a double celebration for Chandon California, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the reopening this Fall of its new Home in Yountville, in the heart of Napa Valley, after a renovation that lasted almost 3 years.
The Californian house, a destination for exceptional sparkling wines in Napa since 1973, is the first of Chandon’s 6 houses worldwide to undergo a transformation and re-open its site, under the direction of Stéphane de Meurville.
True to its origins, the pioneer of sparkling wines in California is reaffirming its local roots and paying tribute to the beauty and richness of the natural environment that surrounds it, in an atmosphere that is authentically Northern Californian, welcoming and respectful of the environment.
A sensory journey combining conviviality and curated experiences
Completely re-imagined in a space that truly embraces the natural beauty of the local environment, the new Chandon Home invites guests to discover new sensory experiences that go far beyond wine tasting.
Much more than a showcase, the new estate is a place that offers warm hospitality through personalized discoveries.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a concierge who greets them and leads them to their table where a host will guide their journey of discovery based on the experience they have chosen, whether it is a wine tasting or a culinary experience.
“As in a home, our welcome is warm, and each space has been designed to offer guests a unique experience” – Stéphane de Meurville, General Manager of Chandon California.
The completely redesigned spaces can accommodate both wine lovers seeking an exclusive experience in the intimate setting of a private terrace under the oak trees, and groups of friends wishing to enjoy a delicious lunch accompanied by wines in the convivial, semi-private setting of the cabanas.
At the Epicurean Hub, the estate’s newly reopened restaurant, guests can savor a seasonal 5-course farm-to-table paired menu with food and wine highlighting the richness of the local terroir.
Guests can also discover the history and ethos of the site and the Chandon community, from local crafts to the know-how of the cellar masters and winemakers.
Blending traditional know-how and innovation
Chandon California cultivates its French heritage through its méthode traditionnelle used in Champagne production methods and the use of traditional grape varieties for certain flagship blends.
“We also enjoy a great deal of creative freedom in the experimentation and development of new wines, always in the pioneering and innovative spirit that lies at the heart of our history.”, explains Head Winemaker Pauline Lhote.
The Sparkling Cabernet Sauvignon and the Garden Tea collection are perfect illustrations of this creative freedom.
Being under the ownership of LVMH Group also implies a strict compliance to high quality standards as well as ethical rules that place the estate’s activities within a framework of resolutely sustainable and responsible business practices.
Sustainability at the heart of the new Domaine
Sustainability is not a new commitment for Chandon California, which has been committed to sustainable development and achieved “Napa Green” certification over 20 years ago.
“The estate’s sustainable initiatives go even further today with regenerative farming practices that aim to restore nature to its rightful place both in and around the vineyards,” explains Stéphane de Meurville.
The estate’s activities are truly part of a sustainable and circular development approach, with a range of practices and achievements that include: reduction in waste produced and a zero waste target within 3 years, the operation of solar panels that supply the estate with electricity, a significant reduction in water consumption and applying composting on the vines to vitalize soil health.
“When we talk about sustainability, we mean it,” adds Stéphane de Meurville.
The gardens and terraces have also been redesigned to be more eco-friendly, with lush native plants and water-efficient succulents among the century-old oaks that grace the property.
Refurbished with local craftsmen, the interior spaces also favor natural, eco-friendly materials.
We have just one piece of advice to give you in this beautiful season and as the festive season approaches. Make a reservation and discover this haven of peace to embark on a multi-sensory journey and savor the many delights in store for you at the new home of Chandon California.
