The theater of the Alliance Française of San Francisco, opened in 1986 under the name “Théâtre de poche,” has a rich history intertwined with French theater. It is hosted by the Alliance Française of San Francisco, which is the oldest in the United States, founded in 1889 by four journalists. It’s worth noting that André Ferrier, a pioneer of French theater, was a member of the board of directors of the Alliance Française.

Noémie Hérail, Director of AFSF, explains that “these improvements will provide a high-quality environment for a variety of events. The renovation work aims to provide optimal conditions for film screenings, concerts, DJ sets, conferences, and many other cultural events.”
The reopening of the theater is scheduled for November 16, coinciding with the celebration of Beaujolais Nouveau, and these enhancements aim to bring together a diverse audience within the theater to celebrate the diversity of the Francophonie through various cultural events.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a young and fruity red wine made from Gamay grapes grown in the Beaujolais region of France. Traditionally, it is released for sale every year on the third Thursday of November, just a few weeks after the grape harvest. This tradition, originally commercial in nature, also offers an opportunity for families and friends to come together before the end of the year.
Date: Thursday, November 16, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Address: Alliance Française of San Francisco, 1345 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94109.
