Wax Tailor will be performing at the Regency Ballroom to present his new album Fishing For Accidents.
Wax Tailor, a multifaceted artist with three Victoires de la Musique nominations, is one of the leading voices of the international post hip-hop and downtempo scenes. With four albums and nearly 500 concerts in over fifty countries, he has enticed fans worldwide with a unique blend of hip-hop, soul, and funk, as well as a sense of storytelling akin to a film director’s.
JC Le Saout, the man behind Wax Tailor, initially worked as a radio DJ in the 90’s before being involved in music production with the French rap band La Formule. In the early 2000’s, his interests shifted to creating a musical project influenced by cinematic elements. In 2002, he released his debut EP, “Lost the Way,” which gained the attention of DJs and journalists around the world. In 2005, his first album, “Tales of the Forgotten Melodies,” was released and was met with critical acclaim. The album has remained on the Electronic Album sales charts on iTunes since its release and is now considered a classic of the genre.
Wax Tailor has diversified his music over the course of his two next albums, toying with a larger palette of influences, breaking the boundaries of musical genres, and collaborating with artists such as Soul Diva Sharon Jones, Spoken Wordlegend Ursula Rucker, and pop-folk phenomenon Charlie Winston.
His single “Positively Inclined”, a throwback hip-hop anthem with a jazz groove, was a crossover hit and took over clubs, exercise classes, and burlesque revues worldwide. The move towards a more organic sound culminated with the launch of The Mayfly Orchestra, a series of sold-out live concerts with the symphonic orchestra of the Rouen Opera. In 2011, WaxTailor began his most ambitious project yet: “Dusty Rainbow from the Dark”, a musical tale about the evocative power of music. Narrated by Don McCorkindale and featuring the likes of Aloe Blacc, Shana Hannigan, Elzhi, and more, the album weaves together narrated episodes and songs in a multicolored fable. To create a unique live experience around the album’s universe, Wax Tailor worked with a team of twenty directors to craft a multi-media experience that has sold out shows everywhere and will appear at over fifty music festivals over the summer.
Wax Tailor’s dynamic blend of styles, influences, and collaborations have made him a leader of the international post hip-hop and downtempo scenes and cemented his place in music history.
