Cyrille Aimée, the winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, has a strong connection to jazz music. She was raised in the French town of Samois-sur-Seine, where Roma jazz legend Django Reinhardt once lived. This town and Reinhardt’s music inspired Aimée to pursue a career in jazz, singing on street corners during her travels across Europe.
Aimée’s recognition as a talented jazz performer was solidified with her victory at the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2007 and her finalist placement in the 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition. Her self-produced debut album was made possible by the funds she won from the Montreux competition. Aimée’s 2014 album, “It’s a Good Day,” released by Mack Avenue, became a global hit and was praised by The New York Times as “a bravura turn, presented with a smile.” The album blends Roma jazz, bossa nova, flamenco, and the Great American Songbook. During her performances, Aimée showcases a mix of her diverse repertoire, including music from her latest album, “I’ll Be Seeing You,” released by Daudel Records.
