Désaxé at the San Francisco TLF opens the 2022-2023 season. This play is 100% in the French language.

From the prison of Fleury-Mérogis, a man is overwhelmed by a thought: he is four years old, and it is his birthday. The sweet scent of his native Algeria comes back to him. But very quickly, the memory of his happy childhood gives way to other, darker ones: the rise of fundamentalism, his flight to France with his parents, his arrival in the neighborhood of Trois-Mille in Aulnay-Sous-Bois, one of the most difficult districts of Seine-Saint-Denis.

From disappointments to disillusions, he sinks into violence. Yet raised in the love of others, he closes in on himself and drowns in radical Islam… He knows that there is no fatality. He could have chosen another route. He preferred to give in to hatred.

This play, beyond a declaration of family love, is a testimony to the community to which the author has become closer. The real subject of the play is not so much jihadism as identity rupture. To write this piece, Hakim Djaziri was simply inspired by his experience. He points out the hazardous routes and denounces the false fatality. To heal this society that is going badly, you have to touch the heart, and for that this text is a real invitation to put it on stage.
