Delusions of Grandeur or La Folie des Grandeurs (1971) – Don Sallust de Bazan (Louis De Funès) avid tax collector is banished from the Court of Spain and decides to use his valet, Blaze (Yves Montand), to get revenge.
Disguised, Blaze takes the vacant position of Don Sallust in order to carry out the revenge of the now ex-tax collector. The latter plans to catch his replacement in the act of liaison with the queen (Karin Schubert), in order to reveal this betrayal to the king (Alberto de Mendoza) and return to court.
Instead, Blaze and the Queen fall in love, and the ex-servant uses his newfound power to help end the mistreatment of the poor in the kingdom of Spain.
A loose adaptation of Ruy Blas, and a great classic of 70s cinema that is worth its weight in gold.
