Zalta is the new restaurant opened by Susannah and Olivier Souvestre in Sausalito. You might remember their names from our article about the Souvestre couple when they launched Alamere, their brand of spirits. They were also at the origin of Garage Bistro and Fast Food Français in Marin County. After 9 years at Fast Food, Français they decided to carry out a complete renovation and recreate a whole new atmosphere to reinvent themselves.
Zalta opened at the end of October 2021 and offers a Mediterranean atmosphere both in the decoration and in the plate.
“We chose to cook a cuisine du soleil because it is light and we appreciate this cuisine for its colors and its spices” explains Olivier, who worked as a chef for seven years in a restaurant in the south of France; “I cook Mediterranean dishes at home as soon as possible with my daughters“.
The menu has been designed so that guests can share courses such as the Mezze which includes muhammara, mutabal, tzatziki, dolmas, olives, feta, and Moroccan vegetables… Hummus, falafels, octopus (caught in the Mediterranean) are also very popular dishes and easy to share. But there are also pinsa romana and Belotta ham; the Mediterranean is a region with multiple cuisines!
“We imagined the name Zalta to create a new story, unique and different from others, and to be the only Zalta in the United States”.
We haven’t tasted Zalta cuisine yet, but we can’t wait to discover the new Souvestre adventure in the New Year!
