The traditional French Buche de Noel is making a comeback in both French and American patisseries in the San Francisco Bay area. It looks like French pastry chefs inspired their American colleagues. Here is our selection for Christmas 2021:

In San Francisco

One 65 – 3 flavors of buches and two sizes available. It should be easy to satisfy all tastes. The Imperial Buche – chocolate, vanilla, crème brûlée; the Chestnut Buche – vanilla, chestnut cream ganache with a whiskey note; the Exotic Buche – mango, passion fruit, milk chocolate. Available in 6 inches ($ 60) or 8 inches ($ 80). Pre-order in-store or online. Pick up in-store on O’Farrell or get it delivered on December 23 or 24.

Maison Danel – 2 versions of buches for 6/8 people. Mogador buche – traditional chocolate/passion fruit and macaroons, Buche Mousse – raspberry/vanilla/pistachio financier. Price $ 70. Available for pre-order two days before minimum.

Thorough Bread – 2 vanilla or chocolate flavors, one size. Available for pre-order for a pickup on December 23 or 24. Details are not available at the time of posting. Online order forms will be available on their site during the week of December 13.

ArizmendiChocolate sponge cake topped with rum-flavored buttercream and chocolate icing, accompanied by small mushrooms in meringue. Available from December 18, on order.

Maison Nico – Chef Nicolas Delaroque has created a Buche chocolate, hazelnut, pear for 8/10 people for $ 75. On order for a pickup on December 23 or 24.

Maison Alyzée, Moutain View – 3 buches – Pearl Chocolate from the Pacific Chocolate, praline – Forest fruits raspberry sponge cake, white chocolate with lemon mousse – Exotic Buche with vanilla, lime, passion fruit, coconut cookie. Orders are open, and Yul logs will be available from 12/12 until 12/31 inclusive – Individual mini logs or for 2/3 people from 12/16 and on-site on 22, 23, and 24 December.

Four different flavors: lemon cookie, mango, passion fruit coulis (gluten-free), bonbon (peanut, chocolate ganache caramel), classic vanilla, classic chocolate: price $ 78.

Amélie Wine Bar Fairfax – in addition to its holiday menu, Amélie will offer buches for takeout – 6 inches, chocolate-orange flavor price $ 45. Available to order from now until December 23. Limited quantities.
