The Asian Art Museum has unveiled a new pavillion with Team Lab, a Tokyo-based art collective in July 2021.

The current immersive experience, Continuity is composed of swirling butteries and blossoming sakuras, banks of fishes twirling in the ocean, nature invites audiences to experience an immersive digital marvel.

This group, composed of engineers, artists, programmers, animators merges traditional Japanese craft with the latest digital technologies.  Visitors roam freely among the vibrant colors while the movement sensitive artworks turn the visitor into participant: dynamic algorithms react to the guests motions within the interconnecting gallery spaces.

The philosophy of the exhibit blends traditional Asian ultrasubjectivity (the 2D, no-perspective vision) and ancient crafts (calligraphy, flower art…) with the latest technology available to repurpose its use into contemporary art.  Nothing will ever be the same after our passage, nothing repeats… a vision Japanese always immensely experience in their daily lives.

The best part is definitely the art-studio, where kids (adults, be ready to retrieve your inner child!) are invited to draw some ocean creature of their own.  Once scanned, one will discover it swimming among the waters, eventually merging into the big exhibit.  Everyone can be an artist in 15 minutes !
