Located in the heart of the Marais district, the Carnavalet-History of Paris Museum is the oldest museum in the City of Paris. Do you know that it contains over 618,000 items dating from prehistory time up to nowadays? It is more than the Louvre!

Carnavalet is reopening after a 4-year renovation and we offer you a preview of its new architectural setting in two private mansions and the amazing period rooms. During the closure, an unprecedented project was undertaken to restore the buildings and collections in order to enhance this exceptional Parisian heritage. Thus, all of the 3,800 works exhibited and the large decorations have been restored. Interventions, ranging from simple dust removal to fundamental restoration.

We selected a range of objects you shouldn’t miss if it is your first visit, like Marie-Antoinette’s shoe, the Bastille model scale or Marcel Proust’s bedroom. This lecture will bring you a lot of interesting facts about the French capital while discovering the most charming museum of Paris.

The tour will be guided by Isabelle Cocatrix. She was born in Brittany and relocated to Paris to attend the famous “Ecole du Louvre” simultaneously studying artistic and cultural communication at the esteemed Sorbonne University.

She then launched her career by embracing her two great passions: Art and Paris! She chose to bring them together by lecturing on and leading art tours throughout the city and museums of France for the past 20 years. In 2012, she founded “Paris Art Stories” to propose lectures, art tours, and tailor-made cultural events.

In constant motion and curious by nature, she always explores new ways of rediscovering and introducing Paris to the next generation of visitors and art lovers!

Isabelle also works as a consultant specializing in street and contemporary art.
