Relax & reconnect
Located in Sonoma County and only 2.5 hours away from San Francisco, The Sea Ranch is a beautiful private community and the perfect spot if you’re looking to relax, reconnect with nature and enjoy one of the most iconic and scenic coasts in the country.
An icon of modern architecture
Internationally known for its distinctive architecture, The Sea Ranch was conceived and designed by a small group of Bay Area architects and designers in the early 1960s. It’s a community where houses are built to become part of the beautiful landscape and where humans live in harmony with nature. The basic premise of The Sea Ranch is to ‘live lightly on the land.”
From breathtaking coastal trails, panoramic Ocean views, redwood forest, and amazing sunsets, it has a lot to offer to nature lovers.
The top things to do for a relaxing weekend
- Live like Sea Ranchers
The Sea Ranch is a private community so renting a house within its bounds will give you direct access to the private trails, beaches, but also to the recreation centers that include a swimming pool and tennis court. You will find many options on Airbnb Sea Ranch.
- Walk along the beautiful bluff
On top of many private trails, the area has around six public access trails along the Pacific Ocean. Start your day with a walk, take your time and look around… you may have a chance to observe many animals in the picturesque surroundings: deer, wild turkey, seals, sea stars, mussels, abalone, and many birds!
- Get lunch at the delicious Two fish Baking at Stewarts Point store
Two fish Baking is a bakery located at the historic Stewarts Point store.
They prepare fresh bread each day and you will find morning pastries, breakfast, sandwiches, calzone, and hand-made goodies. The perfect spot for a lunch break or morning delights!
- Access one of the most beautiful pool
The Sea Ranch has multiple recreation centers but the most beautiful one is the Ohlson Recreation Center. With a heated pool, 3 tennis courts, and a sauna, the Ohlson Recreation Center will blow your mind with its beautiful architecture totally blended with the landscape, like the rest of all the buildings on the horizon. This center is not open to the public and only Sea Ranchers and their guests will be accepted. Pass must be presented. Reservation required.
- Collect mussels along the coast
One fun activity to do in the Sea Ranch while being on a trail is collecting mussels. You can basically collect mussels anywhere on the beach but the only thing you need to get in advance is a fishing license online.
It will allow you to collect up to 10 pounds/day of mussels (in the shell /of California sea mussels and bay mussels in combination.) Moules Frites à volonté !
- Visit The Chapel
Open every day from sunrise to sunset, The Sea Ranch Chapel is a very intimate and unique sanctuary that combines local and natural elements. Designed by James Hubbell, an artist and architectural designer, the Chapel can hold a maximum of 20 people and sometimes host ceremonies.
- Enjoy the most stunning sunset
One of the most beautiful things not to be missed at The Sea Ranch is definitely the sunset! If you want to make sure you to be there on time, get a Northern California Tide Log and never miss the sunset ever again! This book will give you the predictions of sunrise, sunset for every day of the year and can be used either at The Sea Ranch and in San Francisco.
