Dora Maar (1907-1997) was born in Paris but spent her childhood in Argentina where her father worked as an architect. Upon her return, she studied at various art schools.
Friend of André Breton, Brassaï, Man Ray, she was widely acclaimed for her own artistic practice which embraced primarily photography but also painting influenced by surrealism and other avant-garde movements.
She was known to be the muse of Picasso but this relationship destroyed her mental health. Dora spent the rest of her life as a recluse and left a unique and still largely under-appreciated body of work.
A great conference by Céline.
