Here is a list of French and French-language movies available on Netflix in February 2021. No worries, if in French, they are subtitled! Don’t forget to check our French series selection for January.

The Misadventures of Hedi and CokemanEn passant Pecho (2021) – Recommended for an adult audience –  An irreverent comedy by Julien Royal. The two worst dealers in Paris finally have the opportunity to open their own business. Convinced that this means the end of the galley for them, they are still unaware that this is only the beginning of the problems … With Hedi Bouchenafa, Nassim Lyes, Fred Testot.

DNA (2020) – Neige, divorced and mother of three, regularly visits Emir, her Algerian grandfather who now lives in a retirement home. She adores and admires this pillar of the family, who raised her and above all protected her from the toxicity of her parents. Relations between the many members of the family are complicated and resentments numerous … Fortunately Neige can count on the support and humor of François, her ex. The death of the grandfather will trigger a family storm and a deep identity crisis at Neige. From then on she will want to understand and know her DNA. The film was set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2020, It had its world premiere at the Deauville Film Festival on 11 September 2020. The Intouchables (2011) – Comedy – If you have liked Omar Sy in LUPIN, you will love him in The Intouchables”!
Philippe, a wealthy quadriplegic who owns a luxurious hôtel particulier, and his assistant Magalie are interviewing candidates to be his live-in caregiver. Driss, a candidate, has no ambitions to get hired. He is just there to get a signature on a document showing he was interviewed and rejected so that he can continue receiving his welfare benefits. He is told to come back the next morning to collect his signed document. And now, it can all start! With François Cluzet and Omar Sy.

The World is Yours (2018) – Comedy-  A small-time dealer dreams of another life but can’t afford it. To escape, he must accept one last job involving Spain, drugs, the Illuminati, and his overbearing mother. Directed by Romain Gavras. With Karim Leklou, Isabelle Adjani, Vincent Cassel. An impressive casting.

Brother (2019) – Because he wanted to protect his little brother from an overly violent father, Teddy, a young peaceful man, is accused of murdering his father and is sent to a Closed Educational Center, awaiting his trial for parricide. He then plunges into a brutal universe of which he does not know the rules. He meets Enzo, the center boss. After a period of hard confrontation, their friendship will allow them to thwart the fate that was promised to them. With Mohamed Sylla, Darren Muselet, Aïssa Maïga.

The Take Bastille Day (2016) – Michael Mason, an American pickpocket, becomes the most wanted man by the CIA in Paris when he steals what he believed to be a simple bag. Sean Briar, the investigating agent, quickly realizes that Michael is only a pawn in the vast plot that is brewing, and he recruits him to trace it back to the source. With Idris Elba, Richard Madden.

2 alone in Paris (2008) – A bumbling Paris policeman is doggedly determined to capture the master thief that repeatedly eludes him, even when they’re the last two men on Earth. With Ramzi Bedia, Eric Judor and Elodie Bouchez

10 jours en or (2012) – kids compatible – Feel good movie written and directed by Nicolas Brossette. It tells the story of Marc Bajau (Franck Dubosc), a successful traveling sales rep whose life is centered on his work. Marc is also a confirmed bachelor and a bit of a Casanova. He is at the top of his game when suddenly things start to take a turn for the worse.

A mighty team (2016) – When a fit of anger leads to a serious injury, a sidelined soccer star returns to his hometown and reluctantly agrees to train the local youth. With Gérard Depardieu, Medi Sadoun, Barbara Cabrita.

Anelka Misunderstood (2020) – Bad boy of the French football, arrogant, precocious, misunderstood, scorer, unclassifiable, genius, unmanageable. Despite having a career of almost 20 years at the highest level, Nicolas Anelka is still hard to define.

Antoine Griezman; the mankind of a legend (2019) – Documentary – With heart and determination, Antoine Griezmann overcame his small stature to become one of the world’s top soccer players and a World Cup champion.

Artic heart (2016) – A grad student tries to get closer to her professor, who studies flightless cold-weather birds, by injecting herself with a penguin’s genetic material. Avec Charlotte Lebon et Guillaume Canet

Ares (2016) – In the 2020s, France’s economy collapses, and corporations buy its debt. Although still nominally a democracy, the corporations take control of the government and pass sweeping reforms, deregulating many industries. Among these changes, doping and human experimentation are legalized. As homelessness and unemployment rise, violent new sports are introduced. Athletes become sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, who test their new drugs on them. By Jean-Patrick Benes

Back to School – Comedy – Excited to flaunt their success in front of old bullies and teenage crushes, two best friends spend a crazy night at their middle school reunion.

Bad seeds (2018) – Comedy – Wael (Kheiron) a former street child, makes a living from small scams with his adoptive mother and partner-in-crime Monique (Catherine Deneuve). When this unconventional duo swindles the wrong guy, Victor (André Dussollier), an old acquaintance of Monique, the whole picture changes. Victor is now in charge of a support organization for troubled teens, and they have no choice but to become his interim secretary and educator in order to redeem themselves.

Facing six willful kids determined to spoil all his efforts, Wael’s own personal story and inventive tricks become the key to gaining their trust – and he soon realizes that he too is given a chance to heal his past and find his place in society.

BigFlo & Oli (2020) – Go backstage with French rap duo Bigflo & Oli in this intimate music documentary, then join the superstar siblings as they embark on a major tour.

Blind Date (2015) by Clovis Cornillac – French romantic comedy directed by and starring Clovis Cornillac. The film also stars Mélanie Bernier, Lilou Fogli, and Philippe Duquesne. It won the audience award at the 19th annual COLCOA French Film Festival in Los Angeles and the Best First Film award at the 2015 Cabourg Film Festival. Avec Manu Payet, Mélanie Bernier.

Break (2018) – After a serious accident, Lucie tries to rediscover herself as a dancer and meets Vincent, a talented b-boy battling his own insecurities. With Sabrina Ouazani, Slimane, Christophe Reymond

Brother (2019) – Thrust from a violent home into a brutal custody center, a teenager learns to navigate a tough new reality and forge unlikely alliances to survive. With MHD, Darren Muselet, Aïssa Maïga.

Budapest (2018) – Vincent and Arnaud are two friends who once studied in the largest French business school. But today, they are very bored in their work: Vincent works for a multinational where he has no recognition while Arnaud vegetates in the company of his wife’s father, Audrey. During a bachelor party with a friend, they meet a stripper. The latter tells them about the city of Budapest in Hungary. Arnaud then had the idea of creating a company that would organize bachelor parties in this city filled with excessive nightclubs where alcohol flows freely! With Manu Payet.

Burn out (2017) – Tony Rodrigues is a motorcycle racer who has aspirations to enter the professional circuit. While not racing, he splits his time between working as a forklift operator during the daytime and taking care of his son Sofiane whenever his ex-wife Leyla attempts to find employment. Avec Manon Azem et François Civil

Carbon (2017) by Olivier Marchal – On the verge of losing his business, an entrepreneur launches a carbon tax scam that thrusts him into a web of criminals, intrigue, and murder. Benoit Magimel, Laura Smet.

Close enemies (2018) – French Belgian drama – Imrane and Manuel, members of an Arabic crime family, celebrate their friend Nouri’s release from jail. Nouri’s contacts in jail lead them to a drug deal. Urged on by Imrane, Manuel sets up the deal. En route, they are ambushed in a drive-by that results in the deaths of Imrane and Nouri. Manuel escapes but becomes the primary suspect of both the criminal underworld and the police.

Cuties (2020) – Cuties debuts on September 9th on Netflix and has already won this year’s World Cinema Dramatic Directing Award at Sundance. Directed by Maïmouna Doucouré in her feature directorial debut. The film stars Fathia Youssouf, Médina El Aidi-Azouni, Esther Gohourou, Ilanah Cami-Goursolas, and Maïmouna Gueye. 

Warning: Netflix had recently started promoting the film and used an image of middle school girls in minimal costumes. It caused significant outrage on social media, and a petition was started asking Netflix to halt the film’s release. The petition reported the movie as disgraceful, creating a negative impact on young minds and “sexualizing young girls for viewing pleasure of pedophiles. 

Dany Boon des Hauts de France (2018) –  Dany Boon directed and starred in the smash-hit comedy film “Welcome to the Sticks,” about the region where he grew up.

Divines (2016)drama film directed by Houda Benyamina. In a housing estate on the outskirts of Paris, a teenager who is hungry for her share of power and success becomes a runner for a drug dealer. When she meets a male dancer, a window of opportunity offers a different kind of life. It was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Houda Benyamina won the Caméra d’Or. The film also was an official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section.

Earth and Blood (2020) – The film is around a violent showdown at an isolated sawmill that occurs when a young employee hides eight kilos of a gang’s stolen cocaine at the mill. When the heavily armed gang members come to recover their drugs, the sawmill owner stages a last stand to protect his teenage daughter. Directed by Julien Leclercq and starring Sami Bouajila, Eriq Ebouaney and Samy Seghir.

Fadily Camara / La plus drôle de tes copines (2019) – Irrepressible French comedian Fadily Camara weaves jokes, vivid characters, and physical comedy into a lively stand-up show at La Cigale in Paris. 

Fary is the new black (2018) – Armed with sly wit, a fresh outlook, and plenty of styles, French comedy star Fary veer from dating to stereotypes and beyond in this exclusive special.

From Paris with Love (2010) – An American-French action film starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and directed by Pierre Morel. James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has a good job as an ambassador’s aid in France, but his real passion is a side gig, working in a minor role in the CIA. He would love to be a full-fledged agent and can’t believe his luck when he lands an assignment with Charlie Wax (John Travolta). The screenplay was co-written by Luc Besson.

Gad Gone Wild (2017) – Gad Elmaleh’s latest One Man show is mainly performed in French In Gad Gone Wild, Gad uses personal experiences as a Frenchie in the US to highlight cultural differences with his very singular humor between both countries.

Gad Elmaleh American Dream (2018) – Filmed at The Town Hall in New York City, Gad throws his audience into hysterics as he recalls his experiences moving from Paris to New York, struggling to flirt with women in New York clubs, and how he wants to visit the Paris that Americans always talk about, but doesn’t really exist. “Gad Elmaleh: American Dream” marks the comedian’s first full English-language stand-up special.

Get in (2019) – Upon their return from vacation, Paul and his family find their home occupied by squatters. Gradually consumed by anger, Paul is caught in a terrifying conflict.

Gims (2020) – Go backstage with beloved rap superstar Gims in the year leading up to his major 2019 Stade de France performance in this up-close documentary by Florent Bodin

Headwinds (2011) – One year after his wife Sarah’s mysterious disappearance, writer Paul Anderen takes his two children to settle in his birthplace, Saint-Malo, which he hasn’t visited for many years. His brother Alex welcomes him warmly and gets him a job at his driving school, founded by their late father. Avec Isabelle Carré, Audrey Tautou et Benoit Magimel

He even has your eyes (2016). When French-African couple Paul and Sali discover the longed-for baby they are about to adopt is white, family chaos and confrontation ensue. With Lucien Jean-Baptiste, Aïssa Maïga, Zabou Breitman.

I lost my body (2019) – Animated movie in the drama fantasy category by Jeremie Clapin – A cut-off hand escapes from a dissection lab with one crucial goal: to get back to its body. As it scrambles through the pitfalls of Paris, it remembers its life with the young man it was once attached to, until they met Gabrielle. Cesar Award for Best Original Score.

I’m not an easy man (2018) by Eleonore Pourriat – Damien, an unmarried Don Juan, finds himself propelled into a matriarchal society where he falls in love with Alexandra. To make the relationship work, Damien tries to decipher the inverted codes of this new world. With Vincent Elbaz

In the Shadow of Iris (2016) by Jalil Lespert – The wife of a rich banker disappears in Paris, and a young mechanic in debt may be linked to the abduction. However, as the case unfolds before their eyes, the investigators realize they are still far from understanding the truth. With Romain Duris

Journey to Greenland (2016) – Comedy – Two actors from Paris leave the city to go to Kullorsuaq, one of the most remote villages of Greenland. During their stay with the Inuit community, their friendship is challenged as they learn the local customs.

Lady J (2018) – Emmanuel Mouret – Madame de La Pommeraye (Cécile de France), a young and pretty widow, who prides herself on having never been in love, ends up giving in to the tentatives of seduction of the Marquis des Arcis (Edouard Baer), considered a libertine. After a few happy years together, she discovers that he has gradually been tired of her. Broken and wounded in her pride, she begins to take revenge. What begins as a delicate moment of debauchery ends in bitterness and revenge. Do not trust the aesthetics of the beginning.

Let’s dance – (2019) – Joseph, a passionate dancer of hip-hop, refuses to enter the company of his father to try his luck in Paris. With his girlfriend Emma and his best friend Karim, he joins the Paris crew of Yuri, a famous breaker, to try to win an international competition of hip-hop. But the day of the selections, nothing happens as expected: Joseph is betrayed by Emma and Yuri, the group explodes. Collected by Remi, a former star dancer who became a teacher, Joseph discovered the world of classical dance and met the brilliant Chloe, in the midst of the New York City Ballet entrance exam. Through this encounter, orchestrating the unexpected alliance between hip-hop and classical dance, Joseph will learn to feel legitimate as a dancer and leader and become an artist.

Lost Bullet (2020) – Mechanic Lino is passionate about ram cars, but when faced with dirty cops, he’s given a deal he can’t refuse. He must put his passion at their service in order to avoid prison.  Directed by Guillaume Pierret, and starring Alban Lenoir, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Ramzy Bedia.

M.I.L.F (2018) – Directed by Axelle Laffont, who also plays Elise, it follows a trio of forty-something women who begin dating younger men while on vacation. The trio, Sonia, Cécile, and Elise, are friends who go to the Côte d’Azur in the south of France to help Cécile prepare her vacation home to be sold. They meet 3 younger men in their twenties — Julien, Paul, and Markus, a former family friend of Cécile, who work at a local sailing club who show immediate interest in the women who are deemed “MILFs”. The 6 of them spend a lot of time together as a summer fling and the movie ends on their last day on vacation.

Much Loved (2016) – Drama – Four friends who make their living as prostitutes in Morocco deal with both the dangers and stigma that come with their profession.

Nothing to hide (2018) – Fred Cavayé – Everything starts in a cozy apartment where few couples regroup for a dinner over nice food and good wines. The ambiance is very relaxed, they even laugh at bad jokes shared around the table. It would all be nice and uneventful if they didn’t have the idea to share their smartphones, SMS, and phone calls, for the time of this dinner… sometimes, the truth hurts.

Paradise Beach (2019) – A team of former robbers arrived at Paradise: Phuket, southern Thailand. Until the day when the devil arrives: Mehdi, sentenced to 15 years in prison during the robbery, comes to recover his share of the cake.

Paris is us (2019) – The movie reviews the thoughts of Anna and her relationship with Greg in Paris. After some years of dating, Greg has plans to go to Barcelona to work as an air traffic controller. He is unhappy with Anna’s lack of ambition while she is satisfied with her job as a waitress in Paris. Greg wants Anna to come with him to Barcelona but she initially refuses.

Rogue City (aka Bronx) (2020) – Directed by Olivier Marchal. A loyal cop gets caught in the crosshairs of police corruption and warring gangs in Marseille, France, and takes matters into his own hands. With Jean Reno, Lannick Gautry, Stanislas Merhar, Gerard Lanvin…

School life (2019) – The new vice-principal of a middle school in the suburb of Paris, Saint-Denis, Samia (Zita Hanrot) is warned by her fellow teachers that students are unmotivated and are not abide by discipline. She sees things completely in a different manner compared to others. However when she gets to know the students especially Yanis (Liam Pierron) who is quite sharp and intelligent but disillusioned by a world that seems to have turned its back on him and his family. Directed by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir.

Sheherazade (2018) – Zachary, 17 years old, gets out of jail. Rejected by his mother, he hangs out in the mean streets of Marseille. This is where he meets Shéhérazade. César Award for Most Promising Actor, César Award for Most Promising Actress, César Award for Best First Feature Film

Sparring (2017) – Steve Landry, an aging boxer with more defeats than triumphs, agrees to become an emerging champion’s sparring partner. The offer is a desperate last-ditch attempt to stay relevant. Avec Souleymane M’baye et Matthieu Kassovitz

Street Flow (2019) – drama – Directed by Leïla Sy and Kery James and written by Kery James. The plot revolves around fifteen-year-old Noumouké from the suburb of Paris who is about to decide which brother’s footsteps to follow – the lawyer student Soulaymaan or the gangster Demba.

The African doctor (2016) – a drama-comedy – Seyolo Zantoko, a recent medical graduate of Congolese descent in France, struggles to integrate into a rural village but winds up one of the most respected doctors in the region.

The Artist (2011) –  Written, directed, and co-edited by Michel Hazanavicius, the film stars Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship between a rising young actress and an older silent film star as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the “talkies”.

The Artist received widespread critical acclaim and won many accolades. Dujardin won Best Actor at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered. The film was nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any 2011 film, and won three: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Dujardin. In January 2012, the film was nominated for twelve BAFTAs, the most of any film from 2011, and won seven, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Dujardin, and Best Original Screenplay for Hazanavicius.

The Boss’s Daughter (2015) – He falls in love with the daughter of his boss when she chooses him for an ergonomic study, but their relationship attracts the rage and disapproval of everyone.

The Crew (2016) – A successful team of armored truck robbers (Sami Bouajila, Guillaume Gouix, Youssef Hajdi, David Saracino) get pressured into helping with a large-scale robbery by drug dealers who refuse to take “no” for an answer.

The climb (2019) – comedy directed by Michael Angelo Covino. Kyle and Mike are best friends who share a close bond — until Mike sleeps with Kyle’s fiancée. The Climb is about a tumultuous but enduring relationship between two men across many years of laughter, heartbreak and rage. It is also the story of real-life best friends who turn their profound connection into a rich, humane and frequently uproarious film about the boundaries (or lack thereof) in all close friendships. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

The price of success (2017) – A comedian’s relationship with his family deteriorates as he becomes more famous. Avec Mawenn et Tahar Rahim

The wolf call – (2019) – The film is about a submarine’s sonar officer Chanteraide (François Civil), who must use his brilliant sense of hearing to track down a French ballistic missile submarine and end the threat of nuclear war.

To each, her own (2018) – Simone’s been in a relationship for three years with Claire but has never come out to her family. Between her crazy mother, traditionalist father and two brothers who are always trying to set her up with men, it’s hard for Simone to live openly. So when she falls in love with the great Sengalese, Wali, thanks in part to his cooking talents, it’s too much. Split between Claire, Wali and her family, Simone will have to make some hard choices.

Un + Une (2015) by Claude Lelouch – When a famous French composer goes to India to write the score for the Indian version of “Romeo and Juliet,” he meets the wife of the French ambassador and a complicated relationship begins. With Jean Dujardin, Elsa Zylberstein, Christopher Lambert and Alice Pol.

Under the Bombs – (2007) – Lebanese movie in Arabic and French language – Although she grew up in Lebanon, wealthy Lebanese Muslim Zeina Nasrueddi (Nada Abu Farhat) has been living in Dubai with her architect husband and son, Karim. Marital difficulties led her to send her son to spend the summer with her sister Maha in Lebanon. When the 2006 Lebanon War began she traveled to Beirut via Turkey. In order to find her son, she hires Lebanese Christian taxi driver Tony (Georges Khabbaz) to drive her to Southern Lebanon. In their search for Maha and Karim, they encounter the devastation wrought by the war and learn each other’s personal secrets, including the fact that Tony’s brother was a member of the South Lebanon Army and is now living in exile in Israel.

Under the Eiffel Tower (2018) – Feel good movie – After being rejected by his best friend’s 24-year-old daughter, a 50-year-old man embarks on a journey across the French countryside. With Judith Godreche and Matt Walsch.

Wandering Stars (2019) – Documentary – While navigating creative pressures and personal upsets, French rapper Nekfeu begins a global quest for musical inspiration and creates a masterpiece.

We Are Family (2016) – The family of thirteen-year-old Bastien is anything but conventional. With several marriages and divorces of both parents, Bastien found himself caught in the middle of “a number of parents” and many other half-siblings. This means many bedrooms where he and other kids spend a few nights before packing up and moving to another parent’s home. But Bastien has had enough of the arrangement. Eventually, he comes up with an innovative idea where the kids will live together in one place and it will now be the adults who are doing the weekly rotations. With Julie Gayet, Thierry Neuvc, Julie Depardieu…

Wedding unplanned (2017) – When a woman discovers a wedding planner’s business card, she instantly says yes to her partner, unaware that the card belongs to his mistress. The groom becomes trapped between his bride and his lover, who is in charge of his unwanted marriage.

Who killed little Gregory (2019) – Documentary – The premise revolves around the murder of 4-year-old Grégory Villemin in 1984. The case became a media spectacle in France, and no killer has ever been identified

Women at war – 1914-1918 (Documentary) – Marie Curie, Edith Wharton, Mata Hari, Rosa Luxemburg…about a dozen exceptional female figures take us into the heart of the Great War. What emerges from these overlapping stories is one single voice – that of all the women who fought through the horror of WWI. Whether spies, scientists, teachers, or writers, this army of mothers and wives came out of the trenches of their daily lives to bravely battle, yet today their feminist combat and patriotic drive have receded into oblivion. In 90/52 minutes of colorized archives – one film sheds light on their role on the frontlines of history during these four years of deadly conflict.

West Coast (2016) – Four French teens from a small town who style themselves after American rappers go on an adventure to avenge a classmate. They will live their crazy last expedition. They will grow and learn.
