– Update on Dec. 2, 2020 –

We told you about it!! The Unexpected Pop-up Store San Francisco is an ethical Franco-American initiative, with a great background!! And it is back from December 4 to 21, 2020

holiday pop upIt all started on a dinner night between friends trying to find a solution to help Kenlynn who, because of the pandemic, was forced to close her lovely shop in Larkspur. This outpouring of solidarity finally led to the idea of a collective pop-up, because each of the seven girlfriends is a designer or the owner of a brand!! There is strength in unity, especially at this time.

This is how the UNEXPECTED POP-UP was born, a pop-up store that will run from November 7th to 18th, 2020 in the former Maeght Gallery in the Hayes –check new hours since update -. You will find home decoration accessories, bags, jewelry, posters, recycled furniture, sculptures, handmade sweaters, and leathers.

Atelier Bliss Creation: Oversized handmade tote bags made from recycled fabrics and riding bridles. Héléne is a French woman who has lived here for 4 years, and who had her shop in Aix en Provence.

Carole Neilson Ceramics: handmade ceramics with an organic feel to it. Raw yet elegant.

holiday pop upBesides the fact that this UNEXPECTED POP-UP was organized from scratch in record time, it is a fine example of mutual aid in these difficult times. First of all, the former Galerie Maeght generously lends the place to the designers in order to allow them to get started. Then, part of the profits will be donated to a local non-profit affected by COVID. And finally, a group of acquaintances and friends rallied around the 7 girlfriends to help prepare for this ephemeral sale. You have to think of everything from the communication of the event (creation of all the platforms and networking channels) to the layout of the place (major cleaning, repainting, signage, installation, etc …).

This pop-up is part of the new trend that encourages ethical and local shoppers. Here, it is also about showing “the know-how of all these very talented women” explains Anne-Sophie of Maison Papaï.

We love the whole concept of this initiative which will also allow you to start your Holiday shopping.
