Maison Danel the new tea salon and French pastry shop has just opened its doors in San Francisco at 1030 Polk Street. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. you will taste a multitude of “viennoiseriess” for breakfast; then lunch will offer many salads and “croques” as well as traditional tartar steaks or other salmon in “papillote”, then the afternoon will continue with “high tea” my dear, and finally a chic Happy Hour with champagne to end a refined and cozy day, with table service yes please!
Opened on February 18, 2020 by David and Danel de Betelu, Maison Danel adds a little piece of France to the “Civic Center Corridor” , where you can eat all day long, according to the following times:
From Tuesday to Friday
– 7 a.m. to 11 a.m breakfast mode
– 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m: lunch
– 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m: tea room, “high tea”
– 6 pm to 7 pm: chic Happy Hour based on champagne and appetizers.
Saturday and Sunday
– 8:30 am to 2:30 pm: brunch
We went there for lunch and tested their revisited version of the “croque monsieur,” namely the ham and cheese “crioche” (crioche as croissant-brioche). We also appreciated the salad served with its basket of fresh bread (mini épis baguettes) and the elegant desserts Le Magnifique and the comforting Pot de lait.
Menus are prepared by Danel, a Basque chef with a classical training attached to French cuisine, and also by their pastry chef Adrien Chabot freshly arrived from France who trained at La Tour d’Argent, Drouant … so promising!
We still have to try the brunch and the “high tea” inspired by their taste of elegant European tea rooms; high tea as a perfect moment when it is too late for lunch or too early for dinner.
THE PLUS: a chic and warm decor, table service and while the room was full on this first day of opening, the sound level was perfectly acceptable and it was easy to have a conversation … if you know, you know;) Welcome Maison Danel
